Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) stormed back in the second half to upend Super 25 No. 2 Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) by a 73-71 score on Thursday night. The wins snap the two-time defending Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champions’ 39-game winning streak.
Lindsey Pulliam scored nine points ,including five of seven from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, according to an account in The Washington Post. She finished with a game-high 20. Freshman Chloe Chapman scored a season-high 20 for Good Counsel (10-2).
Good Counsel trailed by five at the half and took the lead for good on a jumper by Madison Hardy with less than five minutes left in the game. There were three lead changes in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter by Hardy’s score.
The lead grew to eight with two minutes remaining. The final margin was set when Jasmine Whitney hit a three in the final seconds to draw Paul VI within two. Whitney finished with 19 points.
Paul VI had been 14-0 entering the game and 4-0 in the conference.
