GRAND LEDGE – The Comet gymnastics team literally limped into this year’s CAAC Championship.
But as the Comets have done repeatedly this season they overcame their injury struggles to win the conference title Feb. 20 at Holt.
It was Grand Ledge’s ninth consecutive conference championship. Grand Ledge will host the 14-team regional championship March 5, and the state championships will take place at Rockford High School March 11-12.
In the battle for the CAAC championship, the Comets trailed Haslett-Williamston-Bath (HWB) team the entire day, and were behind by just under a point going into the last rotation, 102.85 to 103.675.
A good day on vault for Grand Ledge combined with a subpar day on bars for HWB to give the Comets the win by nearly three full points, 137.20 to 134.375.
Grand Ledge and Haslett-Williamston/Bath shared the season league title by finishing with identical win-loss records.
