Alanna Zambetti is part of the area’s pioneers in girls prep lacrosse.
The role has earned her a higher opportunity. Zambetti, the senior goalie on the Gulf Breeze High lacrosse team, celebrated her future Thursday in signing with Florida Southern, an NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse power in Lakeland.
She joins teammate Frances Williams, who signed with Lenoir-Rhyne during the NCAA early-signing period in November. Florida Southern played Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday. Both were among players who helped start the lacrosse team at Gulf Breeze.
The Moccasins (8-3), ranked 11th in the current Division II coaches poll, played in last year’s NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse tournament. Their only losses this year are against three teams ranked in the Top 15.
Zambetti, whose parents and brother joined her in Thursday’s signing event, is one of 11 seniors on the Gulf Breeze team. The Dolphins are favorites to win the first all-area District 1 tournament when it begins Tuesday at Gulf Breeze.
