It’s been nine long years, but the Blue Devils are going back to the New York State semifinals.

On Saturday, against Section 9’s Roscoe in a Class D region final, the Haldane High School football team won 14-6 at Mahopac High School.

The Blue Devils (3-6) will now face Section 2’s Cambridge at 4 p.m. Friday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.

“This is the first time we won a regional title since 2007,” Haldane coach Ryan McConville said. “It’s a great accomplishment for our team, our program and our players.”

Sam Giachinta had 144 rushing yards on 21 carries for a touchdown. He was named the offensive Most Valuable Player. Teammate Brandon Twoguns had 104 yards on 13 carries for one touchdown.

“We started off a little slow on offense and defense, but stuck to our game plan,” McConville added. “The kids continued to work hard and we got most of our rushing yards in the second half.”
