High school girls results, Oct. 26

Leah Wengender’s goal late in the first half proved to be the game-winner for No. 1 seed Spencerport in a 4-0 win over No. 12 Brighton in a Section V Class A girls soccer semifinal on Wednesday.

But the Rangers added three more goals for good measure, and to even the score from last year.

Erin Coykendall found the back of the net minutes after the team’s first goal for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Last season, the Barons upset the Rangers in the sectional playoffs and went on to win the title. Goals by Spencerport’s Vanessa Watson and Wengender ended Brighton’s title defense.

“It was a good effort on both sides of the ball to move onto the sectional finals,” Rangers head coach Jamie Schnieder said.

Lauren Opladen made five saves for the shutout.

The Rangers face No. 7 Aquinas in the Class A final, 5 p.m. Friday at Hilton.

Erika Dodds led the way with with seven digs and four kills while Alexis Bianchi added three kills for the Titans (1-15).
