With a year to go, Tiffany Holloway has set the bar high for not only herself but everyone to follow with the Andrews girls track and field program.
The junior recorded a school record in the shot put (41 feet, 6 inches) Wednesday during an eight-team meet at Murphy. Video of the record throw can be seen here.
It is Western North Carolina’s best performance in the field event this spring, but the impact is far more ranging than that.
Holloway’s throw would have been good enough to win last year’s NCHSAA 1-A championship by more than three feet. And it’s nearly two feet better than the former Smoky Mountain Conference record (39-2.5) that 1-A state champ Tiffany McGaha threw for Andrews in 2006.
This year’s NCHSAA 1-A meet is May 20 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro. Cherokee is the host for the 1-A Western Regional meet the week before that.
