Holy Child bests King in FAA; Tuesday's public slate

Holy Child, which will play Masters Tuesday in the New York State Association of Independent Schools quarterfinals, got a nice warm-up in Monday, defeating King 4-0 in a Fairchester Athletic Association game played at Holy Child.

All four Gryphon goals came in the second half, two off penalty corners.

Martina Garate-Griot scored twice and had an assist and Molly Mackie had a goal and an assist.

Lila Pfohol had the other goal, unassisted, and Maddie Lyons had an assist.

Kim Mimi White (three) and King Aimee Madigan (two) combined to make five saves for King.

Charlotte Wertimer stopped four shots for Holy Child.

Tuesday’s public school playoffs

The Section 1 Class A, B and C field hockey finals will be held Tuesday at Brewster High School.

Winners will advance to Saturday’s regionals at Valhalla High School.

Tuesday’s games are as follows:

3:30 p.m. Class C: No. 1 Bronxville vs. No. 2 Croton

5:30 p.m. Class B: No. 1 Lakeland vs. No. 2 Rye

7:30 p.m. Class A: No. 1 Mamaroneck vs. No. 2 Scarsdale.

During the regular season Bronxville beat Croton 3-1,  Lakeland beat Rye 3-1 and Mamaroneck and Scarsdale split their two games, with Scarsdale winning the first 4-0 and Mamaroneck winning the second 3-2.
