Beacon High School’s David Adams took first in the 110-meter hurdles (14.24) and teammate Terrel Davis placed second (15.81) as the Bulldogs won the Section 1 Class B boys track and field championship at Beacon High School on Thursday.
Beacon took first with 166 points, ahead of Pearl River (130) and Nanuet (40).
Rayvon Grey won the 100 dash (11.01), long jump (24 feet, 7 inches) and triple jump (45 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Adams was part of the winning 4×400 relay team with Ian Soares, Colin Battersby and Vincent Compagnone.
Battersby also won the 3,000 steeplechase (10:13.70), Dominic Reid took first in the shot put (49 feet, 10 1/4 inches) and Michael Andrews won the discus (138 feet, 9 inches). Davis took second in the long jump (24 feet) and the triple jump (44 feet, 2 3/4 inches).
The Our Lady of Lourdes quartet of Greg Fox, Alex Scotto, Will Whelan and Zach Ropes won the 3,200 relay in 8:08 as the Warriors finished eighth.
Lourdes’ Jaheim Jones took second in the 100 (11.07) and Ropes placed third in the 400 (51.36).
Girls track and field
Our Lady of Lourdes sophomore Caroline Timm won the 1,500 meters (4:45.41) and the 800 (2:17.29) at the Section 1 Class B championships at Byram Hills.
“Even on a really hot day like this, she did very well,” Lourdes coach John Herles said. “Even when she’s tired or doesn’t feel well, she’s got that an exceptional drive and no matter what, she’ll give it everything she’s got.”
Byram Hills won the Section 1 Class B girls championship. Lourdes finished 11th.
Beacon teammates Paige Baisley and Jummie Akinwunmi tied for second in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) as the Bulldogs finished seventh. Tiara Boone was second in the long jump (15 feet, 1 inch) and Dera Boone placed fourth in the 200 (27.92).
Omar Mendez knocked in two runs as the host No. 2 Bombers beat No. 3 S.S. Seward, 5-4, in a Section 9 Class C semifinal late Wednesday.
The Bombers face Tri-Valley in the Class C final at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Lorenz Field in Saugerties.
Johnny Tuccillo had two hits and scored a run. He also earned the save, pitching 2/3 of an inning in relief of starter Matt Funk. Funk gave up four hits and four runs and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
