HYDE PARK – Police found a large amount of school district-owned “stolen property” at the home of the Hyde Park Central School District’s athletic director and her husband.
Hyde Park police charged Amy McArdle-Rausenberger, 41, and her husband Scott Rausenberger, 36, with second-degree grand larceny, a class C felony.
“We are not releasing the total dollar amount yet, but it is over $50,000” worth of items “bought by the district,” said Hyde Park police Lt. Robert Benson.
On Tuesday, police conducted a search warrant at the couple’s Town of Newburgh home as part of an ongoing investigation into thefts from the district.
A “large amount of stolen property” was found in the couple’s residence and in a detached garage where Scott Rausenberger ran a triathlon and fitness training company called Go Fast Get Fit, police said.
With assistance from state police, the investigation into the thefts began during the second week of August, according to Hyde Park Police Chief Eric Paolilli.
“As we did the investigation, we realized it was an ongoing course of theft that had occurred over an extended period of time,” Paolilli said.
Paolilli said at this point, police are not releasing what was stolen from the district.
“It’s an ongoing police investigation, and we are fully cooperating with the state and local police,” Superintendent Greer Rychcik said.
McArdle-Rausenberger has been the full-time director of athletics, health and physical education for the Hyde Park district since Oct. 12, 2004, according to Rychcik.
Interim Athletic Director Eric Romanino has been filling in for McArdle-Rausenberger since Aug. 2, when she left on family leave. Her annual salary is $129,562, according to Rychcik.
Both McArdle-Rausenberger and Rausenberger were arraigned in Hyde Park Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond Tuesday. The couple was released later that day, according to jail officials.
