COCOA 24, MIAMI WASHINGTON 21
The Tigers broke the Tornadoes’ five-year hold on trips to the state championship game with a fourth-quarter touchdown run of 14 yards by Lasedrick King. Bruce Judson scored on a 1-yard keeper, and Zach Christian covered a muffed punt in the end zone.
Cocoa will face Jacksonville Bolles on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in Orlando for the 4A title.
CHAMINADE-MADONNA 42, MCC 17
The Hustlers fell behind early but then made a game of it before a rough fourth quarter in their Class 3A state semifinal game in Melbourne.
It was the deepest Melbourne Central Catholic had been in the high school football playoffs, highlighted by last week’s nine-overtime win over Clearwater Central Catholic.
When Lorenzo Hardy scored with less than a minute to play in the third quarter, it cut the visitors’ lead to 21-17, but Chaminade-Madonna responded with the last three touchdowns.
TAMPA PLANT 35, VIERA 7
On the game’s opening series, Viera had Plant in a third-and-19 situation and gave up a 48-yard touchdown pass. That was a rough start in what turned out to be the final game of the year for the Hawks.
Nevertheless, Viera is two years removed from never having won a postseason game and now has back-to-back regional final appearances along with its 2015 Class 7A state runner-up finish.
Plant has now won 24 of 25 home playoff games going back to 2006.
