It’s official. Katy fought the world, and the world one.
Facing the loss of 20 victories that paces the school’s baseball team to a 21-0 start, Katy argued for one final appeal before University Interscholastic League officials. According to the Dallas Morning-News, the appeal fell flat, with three officials, including Gil Garza from Dallas ISD, voting that Katy was rightfully forced to forfeit its contests due to illegal payments made to a pair of varsity players.
The raft of forfeited victories instantly eliminate Katy, which was once ranked as high as No. 3 in the Super 25 baseball rankings, from the state playoffs. A legitimate regional and state title contender, the Tigers were expected to contend for everything in front of them, particularly after their blistering start.
Now, because Hayden Baker and Grant Jackman were paid a total of $800 to help coach a local Little League team (money which they later returned), they and their teammates will all be sitting at home throughout the playoffs.
