Dalvin Cook has made a name for himself as one of the best running backs in collegiate football at Florida State. Now his younger brother is trying to make a name of the entire family, and he might just do it at the same place where big bro hopes to hoist a Heisman Trophy in a matter of months.
James Cook, Dalvin’s younger brother, is a star running back for Miami Central. He’s a rising sophomore (he’s in the spring of his freshman year), he’s widely expected to eventually be one of the top-ranked running backs in his class, and he was in attendance at Florida State’s junior day on Saturday. As soon as the younger Cook — who racked up 178 yards and three touchdowns in a state title game against Armwood — was on campus he got in the family act, donning his big brother’s jersey and snapping a photo of himself hitting the dab in a slick matte finished Florida State helmet. The choice of number 4 was a clear homage to Dalvin Cook, as James suits up in number 24 for Miami Central.
It’s too early to call Florida State a prohibitive favorite to land the younger Cook, but if one had to pick a leader it would be hard not to go with the Seminoles. Clearly James Cook isn’t afraid of walking in his brother’s shadow, as he proved on Saturday once again.
