The last time Chaminade College Prep (St. Louis, Mo.) forward Jayson Tatum’s and Huntington Prep (Huntington, W.Va.) forward Miles Bridges’ teams met up on the hardwood they were kicking off summer ball with their AAU teams last April in the Nike EYBL.
Bridges and The Family (Mich.) fell to Tatum’s Eagles (Mo.) and Tatum won the matchup.
On Saturday at the Cancer Research Classic, Tatum kept the streak alive scoring 46 points to help No. 10 Chaminade knockoff No. 18 Huntington Prep in overtime 84-83.
Tatum, a Duke signee, was named MVP of the game. Bridges, a Michigan State signee, had 25 points in the loss.
Tatum pumped in 18 first half points to give the Red Devils a 34-31 halftime lead.
The Irish opened the second half on a 10-3 run to take the four-point lead midway through the third quarter, but Tatum used his all-around game to help the Red Devils reclaim the lead behind eight third quarter points.
Curtis Jones, an Indiana signee who added 25 points in the loss, gave the Irish a 70-69 lead with 30 seconds left in regulation and Tatum answered with two clutch free throws to regain the one-point lead for Chaminade.
On the next possession, Jones went to the line and made 1 of 2 to force overtime.
Then trailing by one with seconds left in overtime, Tatum took the ball from the left wing and maneuvered through the Irish defense for the score and the win.
