Nyah Chavez broke her own school record in the 3200-meters with a time of 11:25.8 and also won the 1600 and 800 races as the Shadow Hills High School girls’ track and field team earned a 95-32 win over De Anza League opponent Rancho Mirage.
Mason Stansberry of the Knights broke the school record with a 12.78 in the 100 race and won the 200 in 27.96.
Other top performances for the Knights included Jada Toland in the 100 hurdles (17:85) and 300 hurdles (54.06), Victoria Soto in the discus (92-feet-2) and the winners 4X400 relay team (Stansberry, Toland, Paige Fullen, and Tyanna Lizarraga) in a school record 4:25.30, and the 4X100 relay team (Stansberry, Toland, Jackie Rodriguez, Denyce Munoz) in 53.88.
Top performers for Rancho Mirage included Hannah Chickering in the triple jump (29’11), Laura Varela in the 400 (1:06.13), Phoenix Chirwa in the high jump (4-2) and Aaliyah Carter in the long jump (14-4).
Shadow Hills 72, Rancho Mirage 55: The Knights won the De Anza League meet with Isaiah Gonzalez winning then 1600m (4:48.1) and 800m (2:07.3) while Armando Munoz won the 200m (23.51) and long jump (19’10).
Gavin Palazzo won the 110m hurdles (16:74), Tony Williams took the triple jump (40’6), D.J. Johnson won the 100m (11.23), Brandon Arellano won the 300m hurdles (43.91) and the Knights took the 4x100m relay (Williams, Johnson, Munoz, and Kaleb Welmas) in (45:03).
Rancho Mirage was led by Jonnathon Avila-Burgueno winning the discus (118’2) and shot put (38’4), Logan Casavant winning the 400m (51.58) and Gabriel Rodriguez winning the 3200m (10:53). The Knights also won the 4x400m relay in 3:33.09.
Palm Springs 6, Hemet 1: Makayla August had two doubles, David Hines had two singles and Sarah Martin added a solo home run as the Indians won the non-league game.
August pitched a complete game for Palm Springs, giving up five hits and striking out eight.
Palm Springs is 7-2 overall and plays at Palm Desert on Friday.
Jesuit 6-8, La Quinta 0-4: The Blackhawks suffered a sweep in a non-league doubleheader to fall to 8-4 on the year.
Jesuit won the first game 6-0 with the Blackhawks limited to just one hit in the game. Mariah Estrada pitched for La Quinta, allowing nine hits and striking out eight.
In the second game, Jesuit won 8-4, Lauren Robinson had three hits for La Quinta including a double while Mia Olvera added two hits.
The Blackhawks will be home Saturday against Riverside Poly.
Desert Chapel 274, Bethel Christian 297: In a match at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Desert, the Eagles were led by Aaron Corey’s 36 and Joey Spoelder’s 48 in the win.
Desert Chapel is now 4-1 and will play against April 4 against Luthern Laverne.
Shadow Hill 16, Desert Mirage 2: Elvis Leon (6-3, 6-0, 6-1) and Andrew Barney (6-0, 6-1, 6-1) each swept their singles matches a the Knight earned the De Anza League victory.
The Knights’ double team of Matt Alaniz and Christian Banda swept their three sets without losing a game, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Shadow Hills is now 2-0 in league, 5-2 overall. The Knights will face Rancho Mirage April 4.
