Koty Burton of La Quinta High School broke a 33-year-old record in the invitational division for the 300 hurdles at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut Saturday.
Burton won the race in a time of 36.92, the fifth fastest time in the United States this year. He also took first place in 110 hurdles in 13.86, the third fasted time in the country.
Casey Cruz of La Quinta was fifth in the mile invitational in a new personal best of 4:23.34, and was fifth in the 800 invitational at 1:54.86, improving his own school record.
Damion Lee of Palm Springs High School finished fifth in the invitational 100 race at the relays, best known as the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Indio High School boys 4×1600 team placed eighth in a time of 18:03.36. The team consisted of Luis Barrera, Jonathan Poblano, Mario Salazar, Jesus Lopez-Martinez.
La Quinta girls improve record: The Blackhawks girls distance medley relay team of Francine Ansley (1200m), Alana Wilson (400m), Vanessa Ramirez (800m) and Sandra Flores (1600m) set a new school record of 12:25.88 while competing in the Mt. SAC event.
Flores also improved her own personal best for the season in the 800M race at 2:16.01.
La Quinta will host Xavier Prep in Desert Valley League action Thursday.
Marisa Rodriguez of Indio High School was 13th in the 3200 invitational in a time of 11:08.22, bettering her personal best in the race by four seconds.
