Dual-threat quarterback has committed to UK
Lafayette High School quarterback Walker Wood has won the Paul Hornung Award, given annually by the Louisville Quarterback Club to the state’s top high school football player.
Wood, a 6-foot-1 187-pounder who has committed to the University of Kentucky, has put up big numbers this season for a Lafayette team that is 11-1 and ranked No. 11 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings. The Generals will host No. 5 Simon Kenton (11-1) on Friday in a Class 6-A regional final.
Wood has completed 163 of 266 passes (61.3 percent) for 2,439 yards and 23 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He also is the Generals’ second-leading rusher with 1,071 yards and 23 touchdowns on 139 carries (7.7 yards per carry).
Last season Wood was a third-team All-State selection by The Courier-Journal after totaling 43 touchdowns (22 rushing, 21 passing) and leading Lafayette to the Class 6-A state final.
Wood will be honored Dec. 20 during a luncheon at Big Spring Country Club.
