The Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association announced its Dream Team for the 2016 season. The Battle Creek area had an impressive three players on the exclusive 23-member state-wide squad.
Lakeview put two players on the team, brothers Nick Jones and Nate Jones.
Gull Lake’s Drew Blakely also made the team as a catcher.
Lakeview’s Nick Jones is coming off a season in which he was also named as a first-team All-State player as a junior and signed to play college baseball at Eastern Michigan. The senior third baseman helped Lakeview to a 27-5 record and a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division title as he earned all-conference honors for the fourth time. A Dream Teamer last year also, Jones has signed with Eastern Michigan University, making the Michigan High School All-Star Game this season.
Lakeview’s Nate Jones, a junior, helped Lakeview to a 27-5 record overall and a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division championship, earning all-conference honors for the third time and being named to the all-district squad for the second time. The outfield/pitcher had a team-high .538 batting average with 50 hits, 13 doubles and four home runs and has already committed to play at Eastern Michigan University.
Drew Blakely, a senior catcher, had a celebrated four-year career at Gull Lake, earning all-conference and all-district honors for four years as well as being named as an All-Stater and Dream Teamer last year and making the Michigan High School All-Star Game this season. Blakely is a career .467 hitter for Gull Lake with 139 RBI and 171 hits over his four years to go along with 67 runs. He will be playing at the next level at the University of Virginia.
