They are on a roll.
The Port Huron Northern boys basketball team continues to build momentum.
On Thursday, the Huskies came from behind to defeat Grosse Pointe South, 42-40, in overtime. Geryd Welsh made a pair of free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining in overtime to win the game.
Those proved to be the only two points scored in the extra session of the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division game.
“We were fortunate to come away with the win,” Northern coach Brian Jamison said. “Early in the second half, we were down 11, but were able to make some defensive plays and hit a few big shots to get back in it.
“Our defensive effort was much better in the fourth quarter and overtime. Grosse Pointe South is a very good team and this was a nice league win for us.”
Welsh led Northern with 22 points and the Huskies (2-0, 5-1) also got eight points and 16 rebounds from Kodi Badger.
