Charlestown, known for its explosive offense, received an equally impressive performance from its defense on Friday night to preserve a victory.
Leading by 12 points in the fourth quarter, Charlestown’s (4-1) defense forced a turnover on downs and a fumble to aid a win at Silver Creek, 26-14.
Pirates’ senior quarterback Brendan Lawler accounted for three touchdowns but also had two interceptions.
Silver Creek (3-2) got on the board first with a 44-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Landers to Zane Gross. It stayed 7-0 until the first few seconds of the second quarter, when Lawler ripped off a 66-yard touchdown run to make it 7-6.
Four minutes later, Lawler found space and scampered for a 45-yard touchdown run to make it 12-7. Lawler finished the game with an impressive 240 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Silver Creek re-took the lead with 4:32 left in the second quarter on a Jacob Garrett two-yard run to make it 14-12, but it was the last time the Dragons scored.
