Jason Stewart, a former standout wrestler at Lawrence North, has returned to his alma mater to coach the wrestling program.
Stewart was most recently the wrestling coach at Marion, where he was also an assistant for the football team. Prior to Marion, Stewart was the head coach at Mt. Vernon and Manual. He was the IPS Coach of the Year four times while at Manual.
“Jason has a proven track record of success and knows this community,” Lawrence North athletic director Mike Penrose said. “We are happy to welcome back one of our own.”
Stewart was a three-time state qualifier at Lawrence North, including a state runner-up finish at 189 pounds as a senior in 1991. He was the school’s athlete of the year as a senior and was a part of two state runner-up teams, in 1989 and ’91.
Lawrence North won a regional title last season and finished eighth at state. Stewart replaces Brian Seltzer, who resigned after the season to spend more time with his family.
