STAUNTON – Gunner Cook hurled a complete game to lead Robert E. Lee past Broadway 4-3 Friday night at John Moxie Memorial Stadium in a Valley District baseball contest.

Lee took a 2-0 lead in the second when Casey Taylor and Brice Wheeler both reached on errors and later scored on a ground single to center by Taylor Fix.

That margin didn’t last, and by the middle of the sixth inning, the game was tied 3-3.

Lee plated the winning run in the last of the sixth. Taylor reached on an error at short, Later in the inning, with the Lee runner at third, Fix beat out a grounder to short with the lead run crossing the plate. Fix wound up with three RBI in the contest.

Cook then retired three of the four batters he faced in the seventh, with a fly ball to center ending the contest with the tying run at second. He allowed just four hits in the game and had four strikeouts.

Lee is now 4-12 on the season and hosts Spotswood on Wednesday. Broadway, 9-10, entertains Fort Defiance on Monday.
