STAUNTON – Lee High and Spotswood have played three tough matches this season, two in the regular season and one in an early-season tournament. Spotswood came out on top twice, but all three went down to the wire.
On Thursday night, the Trailblazers topped Lee 19-25, 25-15, 25-14, 17-25, 15-13 in a Valley District match.
Meghan Wood and Amber Johnson were honored before the match as the two seniors on the roster. Then both went out and played a good match, with Wood finishing with five kills and 16 digs and Johnson leading the team with 27 assists.
Jennifer Williams paced Lee High on attacks, finishing with 19 kills while adding four blocks and 20 digs. MacKensie Bowles had eight kills and 20 digs in the loss. Freshman Nellie Garrison had nine kills and Alyx Steitz finished with six kills and six blocks for Lee. Camryn Shull added 23 assists for the Lee Ladies.
Lee is now 15-6 on the season and finishes the regular season Tuesday at Waynesboro.
Lee lost the jayvee match, with Spotswood taking it in three 22-25, 25-17, 15-9.
