STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee got the sweep, but it wasn’t easy.
Lee High got past Wilson Memorial volleyball 26-24, 27-25, 25-22 Thursday night.
Jennifer Williams led the way with 16 kills and three blocks. MacKensie Bowles added eight kills and a pair of blocks to go along with 10 digs.
“She really stepped up and was on fire,” Lee coach Jan Williams said of Bowles. “She was really hitting the ball well. I was really pleased with her.”
Nellie Garrison and Alyx Steitz added four kills each in the win, while Amber Johnson had 22 assists and 14 service points. Camryn Shull finished the night with 15 assists and Meghan Wood had 12 digs in the victory.
“It was a very close match the whole time,” said Wilson coach Lauren Grove. “I am proud of the way my girls played. They showed the spark we are looking for even though the outcome wasn’t what we wanted. I had many players step up and take charge.”
Hannah Johnson had 11 kills for Wilson, while Cheridan Hatfield finished with 16 assists. Johnson and Emma Nargi had four blocks each and Addison Tuttle added a pair of blocks.
Wilson’s jayvee team won 25-13, 25-14.
