VERO BEACH — Senior Jessy McLean went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Erin Kyle went 4-for-4 with two RBI as Bishop Verot pounded out 15 hits en route to its first state final in 12 years with a 8-0 Class 4A semifinal win over Jacksonville Trinity Christian Thursday at Historic Dodgertown.

The Vikings (20-9) will face Montverde Academy at 5:35 p.m.

“It’s just another game,” Verot coach Pablo Plaza said of the final. “We just need to play as a team the way we did here.”

Kyle, a senior right-hander, gave up just one hit and struck out six to pick up the victory.

“I was really trying to do my best and contribute,” Kyle said. “My team works really hard and I’m just one small piece.

Plaza said he’s considering starting junior Nicole Fortner-Rodriguez in the final.

“We always go one and one with them. That’s what we’ve done all season,” Plaza said. “But we know we have Erin.”

Verot loaded the bases in the second inning with one out after consecutive base hits by McLean, Kyle and Dana Wherry, but managed just one run. McLean was forced out at the plate, but Trinity catcher Krystal Haynes attempted to turn a double play and threw into right field, plating Kyle for a 1-0 lead.

With bases loaded and one out, McLean, an Emory University signee, drove in two runs with a hard-hit groundball threw a draw-in infield and Kyle added an RBI single to right field to make it 4-0 in the third.

“We had the right approach at the plate,” McLean said. “None of us was going up there looking for that huge hit. We all did out parts.”

McLean added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Kyle had an RBI single in the sixth. Sammie Massaro followed with a two-run single into right to cap the scoring.
