Three Robertson County teenagers were among dozens of golfers competing for the 5AA region state championship in Manchester last week.

Springfield’s Jay Fox – a Goodpasture senior and Austin Peay commitment – shot a 143 and tied for second place behind champion Kyle Cottam, a Clemson commitment from Knoxville Catholic who finished at 6-under 138.

Greenbrier High School sophomore Jeffrey Hooper finished in a three-way tie for 10th place with a score of 149.

And Jo Byrns senior Nick Henderson, of Cedar Hill, tied for 20th.

The field included 72 players from across the state.

Henderson, Fox and Hooper all play at The Legacy Golf Course in Springfield.

It was Henderson’s fourth year to qualify for the state championship. He secured a second place finishing score of 69 in the district tournament earlier this year. After graduation, he said he wants to attend a college that will allow him to further develop his golfing skills.

Gannett Tennessee reporter Craig Harris contributed to this report. Reach Nicole Young of the Robertson County Times at 615-306=3570 or on Twitter @nyoung80.
