Two area players and one coach are set to represent their respective schools at the 42nd annual Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Series July 9 and 10 at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind.

New Albany head coach Chris McIntyre and outfielder AJ Nixon were selected for the South team, joining Jeffersonville’s Drew Campbell, who cannot participate due to a broken wrist.

The series commences with a doubleheader on Saturday July 9 followed by a wood-bat game on Sunday. Twenty-five players were selected for each team. North owns a 63-56 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1975.

Nixon enters as New Albany’s eighth all-star selection in the past 10 years and 19th overall. A four-year varsity starter, Nixon is tied for a program record with 37 doubles and sits third all-time with 134 hits. He tallied a .400 batting average, 16 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBIs this past season.

It’s the second honor for the 22-year head coach McIntyre, who led the 2016 Bulldogs to a 25-8 record. He last coached the series in 2000.

“This is an outstanding honor for AJ and our baseball program,” McIntyre said. “He had an outstanding career. He has been a great representative and role model for our school. He always has a great attitude and has been a joy to coach.”

Campbell, the Courier-Journal Baseball Player of the Year, is Jeffersonville’s third all-star selection in the last four seasons. The senior Onley Central College signee led the 20-5 Red Devils in runs scored (30), hits (35), RBIs (27) and home runs (8) in 2016.
