2016 Hackley Hornets
Coach — Steven Frolo
How many years have you been coaching at your current school? This will be my 19th season as the varsity baseball coach at Hackley.
How did your team fare last season? Last season we finished the season with a 12-8 record. We were playing our best ball at the end of the season and made it to the finals of the private schools states. We lost the final game 3-2 in 8 innings!.
Who are the top players that you lost to graduation? We have to replace our top two pitchers from last year, George Santangelo and Ryan Walker . Both were dominant on the mound last year giving up less than 2 1/2 runs per game.
Who are your key returning players? We are looking for senior Eugene Linden and juniors Ryan Smith and Andrew Chung to step up on the mound. Also, Sam Rinzler is our leadoff hitter who can disrupt teams with his bat and his legs on the bases.
How do you feel about your pitching entering the season? At this point we feel that our pitching and defense will be fine.
Your lineup? We are just not sure how much we will hit this year.
How would you assess your team’s chances this season? We have a young team with only one senior. We need the younger players to grow up quickly.
When is your opening game? The Hornets open their season on April 6th.
