2016 Lincoln Lancers
Coach — Brian Vickers
How many years have you been coaching at your current school? Four years.
How did your team fare last season? 18-5, lost in Class A semifinal game vs. the state champs (Byram Hills).
Who are the top players that you lost to graduation?
Who are your key returning players?
Luis Angel Castillo (2B)
Xavier Warren (CF)
Ray Patrone (RF)
How do you feel about your pitching entering the season? We lost the top pitcher in Bryan Alcala but Lincoln baseball retools with three arms that can bring us back to the sectional playoffs.
Your lineup? We lost 12 seniors, however we do have the former player of the year in Yonkers with Luis Angel Castillo and two All-League selections in Ray Patrone and Xavier Warren that can solidify the middle of our lineup.
Your defense? We build our team through defense! We are anticipating a strong defensive outfield which includes our returners Xavier Warren and Ray Patrone, and a strong middle infield that includes returning player of the year in Yonkers, Luis Angel Castillo, and Adonis Herrera.
How would you describe your philosophy on how the game should be played? We build ourselves on small ball baseball and good pitching. It has led us to to the top of the Yonkers division and we anticipate players will step up.
How would you assess your team’s chances this season? Our team is coming for the big teams in our class. We play many teams like Albertus, Rye and Pearl River at the front end of our schedule and we feel that we should be able to contend with. Our team goals are another league title, Yonkers championship title, and doing more damage to teams that underestimate us in the sectionals.
When is your opening game? Albertus on April 1.
On deck: Lakeland
