Two weeks ago, Dresden Simon watched in admiration as his teammate, Clay Ragon, became the second wrestler in Dansville High School history to reach 200 career wins.
A week later, he became the third.
Simon recorded the monumental victory at the Division 4 team regional, which ended in a loss to No. 9-ranked Manchester.
The milestone was captured on video and was voted the LSJ prep video of the week.
“It felt cool to get 200 around the same time as Clay,” said Simon, who is the No. 1-ranked (D4) wrestler at 140 pounds. “It showed all of the hard work we put in together.”
Simon, who is 48-1 this season, was one of four Aggies to be crowned champion at Saturday’s individual regional tournament and will be one of seven – one shy of the school record – to compete in next weekend’s (March 3-5) state tournament at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The senior said his team expected to have several wrestlers push through to the sport’s final weekend.
“We worked pretty hard together as a team,” he said. “We’re a close-knit group. We like to have fun, but we like to work hard at the same time.”
Simon, who can become Dansville’s first two-time state champion, recently signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Central Michigan next season. He said his decision to attend the Mid-American Conference school was largely due to the direction the program is going.
“They’re trying to be the top wrestling school, not just the best in the MAC, which is something I agree with,” said Simon, who has 205 career wins. “My decision was based on their work ethic and motivation behind things.”
