Kelvin Joseph, a five-star cornerback prospect from Baton Rouge, La., committed to LSU in February. That commitment may not stand for too long.
As reported by SEC Country, Joseph spent the weekend and first two days of this week in Tuscaloosa camping and visiting at Alabama. During that stretch he sat down with Alabama coaches multiple times, including a 1-on-1 film review session with legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The resulting impact was enough to make Joseph question if he’s really headed to the right school for him.
“I’m going to talk about it (when I get home) to make sure I’m making the right decision or if I should rethink my commitment,” Joseph told SEC Country. “I’m just thinking if I want to de-commit or if I should think about Alabama?
“I can see myself going there. It would be good. He pointed out every detail in that film to make sure I get it right. Les Miles doesn’t really come and tell you 1-on-1 how to do it on defense.”
Joseph may not be ready to leave his hometown team yet, but he’s clearly thinking about it. And there’s little question that the Saban > Miles factor is a critical one in his decision. He specifically credited Saban and called out Miles for the Alabama coach’s hands-on training with a prospect who he knew was committed to his in-state program and, ergo, relatively unlikely to bolt for the Crimson Tide. As a show of how serious Joseph is about Alabama, he’s agreed to return to Alabama for a visit during the fall, and plans to bring his parents with him from Louisiana. Perhaps that will make the difference one way or the other. Until then, the Scotlandville Magnet star clearly has a lot to consider.
