The possibility of none of Fort Collins’ four high schools making the postseason in football is becoming very real.
With two weeks left in the season, all four are on the outside looking in on the playoff picture.
Poudre still has the best shot. The Impalas (5-3) are No. 20 in Class 5A in RPI, with 16 teams making the postseason. Poudre still could get a boost, though, with games against Valor Christian (No. 1 in RPI) and Highlands Ranch (No. 9 in RPI).
Fossil Ridge (5-3) is No. 23 in 5A, but it is almost certain that the SaberCats are out. Their final two games won’t help their score RPI much, facing FNE Warriors (42nd in 5A in RPI) and Horizon (24th in RPI).
Rocky Mountain (0-8) is No. 34 in 5A and will miss the playoffs. Likewise, Fort Collins (2-6) is out of the picture, sitting 30th in 4A.
Windsor (5-3) is still in position to return to the playoffs to defend its 4A state title. The Wizards are No. 11 in 4A.
Seven playoff spots automatically go to conference winners, while the other openings go to the remaining nine top-rated teams in the RPI.
Entering the last week of its regular season, Resurrection Christian (8-0) is second in 2A in RPI.
Volleyball RPI — Fossil Ridge is still primed to host regionals next week. The SaberCats (16-2) are No. 2 in 5A’s RPI rankings. Fort Collins (11-5) is No. 18 and Rocky Mountain (12-6) is No. 20, so both should make the postseason. Poudre (2-17) will miss out.
In 4A, Windsor (9-9) is No. 25 and just on the inside of the playoff bubble. In 3A, Resurrection Christian (12-6) is No. 7 and Liberty Common (5-13) is No. 39.
In 1A, Heritage Christian (15-4) is No. 11. Volleyball regionals will be announced Oct. 31.
Playoff soccer times set — Most times have been set for this week’s first-round soccer games. No. 8 Fort Collins will host No. 25 Lakewood at 6 p.m. Thursday in a game played at Fossil Ridge.
No. 30 Fossil Ridge will play at 4 p.m. Thursday at No. 3 Cherry Creek. In 4A, No. 30 Windsor will play at No. 3 The Classical Academy at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. In 3A, No. 21 Liberty Common will play No. 12 Bruce Randolph at 3:30 p.m. Friday in a game at Vanguard School in Colorado Springs.
