A Mahopac man convicted of criminal mischief for attacking his daughter’s high school lacrosse coach for cutting her from the team will be sentenced Tuesday night in Carmel Town Court.
Alfonso DiFusco Jr., 47, was found guilty of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a violation, in a one-day bench trial before Town Justice Thomas J. Jacobellis on March 4. He was acquitted of misdemeanor assault.
The attack occurred March 13, 2015, after coach Jim Lieto trimmed his team’s roster during spring tryouts.
DiFusco testified that he went to the school “very, very upset, hearing my daughter crying in the background and my wife in tears” after his wife had called him to tell him his daughter, Gabrielle, hadn’t made the Mahopac High School girls’ lacrosse team.
He said he initially just wanted to “sit down with the coach” to ask why his daughter had been cut.
Lieto initially told police the father punched him.
DiFusco faces up to 90 days in jail in addition to a possible fine.
