Marysville isn’t just the No. 1-ranked team in the Times Herald Girls Basketball Poll anymore.
They’re also in the driver’s seat of the Macomb Area Conference Gold division.
The Lady Vikings are running through their conference competition, beating Center Line and Warren Woods-Tower last week. It looked like their toughest competition would be Center Line and Marine City — who Marysville beat to start league play — and two convincing wins have shown they are the team to top in MAC Gold play.
Port Huron Northern took two tough losses in the MAC Red, losing to Grosse Pointe North and Dakota.
The Greater Thumb Conference East is still seeing red as the Marlette Red Raiders continue to impress with their talented lineup, topping Laker and Harbor Beach in convincing fashion. In their 52-28 win over Laker, Haley Cross and Emily Schaub combined for 40 points in perhaps the most impressive duo performance of the season.
Sandusky is still on the outside looking in at Marlette, staying one behind them with a 52-46 win over Brown City.
The Blue Water Area Conference is still controlled by Croswell-Lexington, who trumped Armada 50-28 to stay unbeaten in the conference. Richmond also snapped its brief two-game losing streak with a commanding win over Algonac.
“We weren’t afraid to make mistakes,” Richmond head coach Mark Ladd said after the win. “The last two games we played a little timid … we just need to know it’s ok to make mistakes, and when you run the press that will happen sometimes.”
