This week could very well decide the MAC Gold title race.

Marysville – who sits atop of the conference with a 6-0 record – will face the teams tied for second this week. The Vikings will travel to Marine City (10-2 overall, 4-2 MAC Gold) on Tuesday and then host Center Line (10-3, 4-2) on Friday night.

If the Vikings win both games this week, they would be one win away from clinching a share of the MAC Gold title.

Up in the MAC Red, the Port Huron Northern Huskies (10-4, 3-3 MAC Red) made some noise with a 54-52 road win at Cousino (11-2, 5-1) to deal the Patriots their first conference loss.

Right now the Huskies sit in fourth place behind Grosse Pointe South and Grosse Pointe North, who each have a 4-2 MAC Red record and will host Northern this week.

Teams No. 3-5 in our poll all shared the same unfortunate similarity in the fact that they all lost once last week.

Marlette, which has only lost twice this season, fell to Reese 67-63 in a Greater Thumb Conference crossover game to start its week on Tuesday. The Red  Raiders did bounce back with a 41-31 win over Brown City on Thursday.

“We’re just playing together as a team,” Red Raider head coach Cathy Storm said. “Defensively we are very solid and that’s carried us through big games.”

Marine City and Croswell-Lexington each fell late in the week, albeit to strong teams. The Mariners are now knotted up in the MAC Gold with Center Line after a 56-49 win. However, they bounced back in dominant form against rival St. Clair, topping them 54-23.

For Cros-Lex, they went outside of the BWAC on Friday and fell to Marian, 48-26.
