McDowell football coach Carson Gowan has resigned.

Gowan had a 23-68 record in eight seasons and was a Titans assistant coach for 21 years before that.

McDowell was 4-8 this past season. His 2012 team went 8-4 and ended a nine-year postseason drought.

The Titans now become the fifth Western North Carolina program to change football coaches since the season ended in December. Hayesville (Kenneth Dockery) and Smoky Mountain (Chris Brookshire) have made new hires, while Asheville High and Roberson are still in the process of collecting applications.

Candidates for the McDowell job are asked to send their resumes to Principal Edwin Spivey at edwin.spivey@mcdowell.k12.nc.us.
