Bringing a wealth of experience as a coach and administrator, Russ McKinstry has been hired as Poudre School District’s athletic director.
He replaces Ron Alexander, who stepped down from the position in April after two years. PSD announced McKinstry’s hiring this week.
McKinstry was the athletic director at Monarch High School in Louisville the last two years. Previous to that he spent eight years at Lewis-Palmer, where he was the AD and coached the boys basketball team to back-to-back Class 4A state titles in 2012 and 2013.
He’s also served as athletic director at Northridge High School in Greeley and Smoky Hill High School in Aurora.
“I’m really excited,” McKinstry said. “PSD has a great reputation statewide academically and athletically. I’m looking to keep pushing forward with the vision Ron had.”
The biggest thing on McKinstry’s radar will be a bond vote in November on PSD’s growth plan that includes new high schools and a new athletics facility.
McKinstry said his family will move to Fort Collins this summer.
