LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS
Kevin Knox, Carmel
Weight class: 132 pounds in Division 1
What was it that made you initially want to wrestle? My dad introduced me to wrestling when I was in third grade.
What makes the sport unique in your mind? It’s the only sport that will give a direct result from the work you put in. You cannot rely on anyone else but yourself.
Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? My goals reach much further than a section title, so work still has to be done.
What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? I got strep throat the Wednesday before sectionals, so that kinda stunk. Otherwise, simply staying discipline with my diet is and always will be a struggle.
How would you describe yourself on the mat? Relentlessly dominant and creative.
And off of the mat? Hard working, compassionate and usually pretty chill.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Collect vinyls, play video games and eat way too much food.
Who is your favorite band/artist? Modest Mouse, STR FKR, Vampire Weekend and Built to Spill, to name a few.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich? Bacon, egg and cheese.
What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? Figuring out where my girlfriend was sitting so I could point to her.
NOTE: We plan on profiling all 30 Section 1 champions before the New York State tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 26. If you’re a champ and didn’t receive the questions, email beat writer Vincent Mercogliano at email@example.com.
