LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS
Jake Spreckman, Clarkstown South
Weight class: 220 pounds in Division 1
What was it that made you initially want to wrestle? John Laurenzi asked me wrestle for the South kids club when I was younger so I tried it out and loved it.
What makes the sport unique in your mind? It’s an individual sport so no one can help you out. Only you can control your fate.
Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? Absolutely not.
What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? Bumping up a weight class and wrestling kids almost 30 pounds heavier than me.
How would you describe yourself on the mat? A heartless savage.
And off of the mat? Awesome.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Hang out with my friends.
Who is your favorite band/artist? Drake.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich? Chicken cutlet with mozzarella.
What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? Finally.
NOTE: We plan on profiling all 30 Section 1 champions before the New York State tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 26. If you’re a champ and didn’t receive the questions, email beat writer Vincent Mercogliano at firstname.lastname@example.org.
