LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS

What makes the sport unique in your mind? It is physically and mentally the most demanding sport.
Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? Yes, I had some disappointing performances that taught me I have a lot to work on in order to achieve my goals.
What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? I needed to be confident with what my coaches have been teaching me and towards the end of the season — when I bumped up to 160 lbs for sectionals — I had to deal with being smaller than all of my opponents.
How would you describe yourself on the mat? Aggressive.
And off of the mat? Laid back.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Listen to music, play video games.
Who is your favorite band/artist? Eminem.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich? Chicken parm.
What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? All the pressure is off.
NOTE: We plan on profiling all 30 Section 1 champions before the New York State tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 26. If you’re a champ and didn’t receive the questions, email beat writer Vincent Mercogliano at firstname.lastname@example.org.
