LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS
Anthony Malfitano, Pearl River
Weight class: 152 pounds in Division 2
What was it that made you initially want to wrestle? I was told to play a winter sport in seventh grade, so I joined the wrestling team. I did well and ended up sticking with it!
What makes the sport unique in your mind? The sport teaches you more than just wrestling and the physical aspects. You learn how to accept failure and to be able to overcome the past to achieve your goals.
Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? No, I know that if I work the hardest that I possibly can then I will be able to accomplish my goals.
What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? Putting in all of the hard work, and making weight the whole season.
How would you describe yourself on the mat? Savage.
And off of the mat? A pretty friendly guy.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Hang with my friends and eat!
Who is your favorite band/artist? Anything that gets me hyped before a match.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich? A giant chicken parm.
What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? Albany, here we come!
NOTE: We plan on profiling all 30 Section 1 champions before the New York State tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 26. If you’re a champ and didn’t receive the questions, email beat writer Vincent Mercogliano at email@example.com.
