LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS

Jake Kurzhals, Pearl River

Year: Senior

Weight class: 138 pounds in Division 2

What was it that made you initially want to wrestle? I went to the kids club wrestling program at my school in third grade and I have been wrestling ever since.

What makes the sport unique in your mind? Not everyone can do it.

Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? No, I work too hard to have doubts.

What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? Deciding what weight class I wanted to wrestle at.

How would you describe yourself on the mat? Focused and determined.

And off of the mat? Same thing.

What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Hangout with friends.

Who is your favorite band/artist? The Foo Fighters.

What is your favorite kind of sandwich? An Italian combo.

What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? All my hard work is paying off.
