LOHUD WRESTLING’S MEET THE CHAMPS
Justin Lopez, Yonkers
Weight class: 106 pounds in Division 1
What was it that made you initially want to wrestle? I was forced to and it just stood with me. It became apart of me.
What makes the sport unique in your mind? It’s the toughest of all sports in my opinion. Only you can decide the outcome on the mat.
Have there been moments when you had doubts about whether you could accomplish your goals? Never. I put in way too much work to fall short of my goals.
What obstacles did you have to overcome this season to become a champ? I had to get mentally tougher and make sure that I outworked my competition.
How would you describe yourself on the mat? Confident, technical and explosive.
And off of the mat? Outgoing, ambitious and dedicated.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your spare time? Spend time with friends and EAT!
Who is your favorite band/artist? Jay Z.
What is your favorite kind of sandwich? Bacon, egg and cheese with mayo and ketchup.
What was going through your mind when you had your hand raised as a section champ? It’s about time! One more to go.
NOTE: We plan on profiling all 30 Section 1 champions before the New York State tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 26. If you’re a champ and didn’t receive the questions, email beat writer Vincent Mercogliano at email@example.com.
