Congratulations to Merritt Island High Track and Field athlete Macie Monborne, FLORIDA TODAY’s high school Athlete of the Week for the week of April 9-15.
Monborne won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.10 seconds, the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.86 and the high jump by clearing 5-0 on Wednesday at the District 13-3A track and field championship in Sebastian.
Monborne collected 39 percent of the more than 800 votes cast. Second place was Palm Bay track and field athlete Desirae Mills (24 percent), followed by Holy Trinity baseball player Tony Jenkins (18 percent), Bayside softball player Caitlin Meyer (14 percent) and Viera High tennis player Sasha Belaya (5 percent).
