That escalated quickly.

Michael Porter Jr. and Trae Young, two of the top talents in the Class of 2017 who happen to bookend the talented MoKan Elite AAU squad expected to contend at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam finals, both exploded in their first game on court in North Augusta, S.C.

Porter Jr., a smooth, skilled 6-foot-10 swingman headed to Seattle for his final year of high school, scored 28 points in a 105-74 rout of LeBron James backed and Ohio-based King James. Young was just a bucket behind in the scoring department and set up a number of Porter’s flourishes as well. You can see some of Young’s best highlights from the matchup below.

And here’s Michael Porter Jr. with the Twitter-appointed “Dunk of the Night” from Day 1:

To be fair, Porter Jr. and Young were hardly the only standout stars to make an impression on Wednesday night. Just take a peep at Gary Trent Jr.’s line for proof of that. Still, the fact that the dynamic MoKan duo did it in a big game against elite talent … together … again … will only increase the attention and speculation that they could head to the same college together. All eyes will be on Washington, which recently hired Porter Jr.’s father, Michael Porter, as an assistant coach.

For now, that’s still far off in the future. Porter Jr. and Young have plenty of carving up of EYBL defenses to do first, with a chance to build on a big first contest for both.
