Birmingham Groves' Beau Kewley hands off to Ernest Allen against Rochester Adams on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Birmingham Groves High School in Beverly Hills, MI.

Birmingham Groves’ Beau Kewley hands off to Ernest Allen against Rochester Adams on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Birmingham Groves High School in Beverly Hills, MI.

Romeo’s impressive 31-8 victory over unbeaten and No. 6 Warren Mott was enough to get the Division 1 state champ back in this week’s rankings. Brighton is also a newcomer this week after Rochester Adams lost to Birmingham Groves.

All of Division 2’s top 10 ranked teams won last week, but U-D Jesuit’s win over Warren De La Salle enabled the Cubs to take Flint Carman-Ainsworth’s spot at No. 10.

The only three-loss team in the rankings is Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in Division 3, which is coming off a 28-7 loss to Detroit Catholic Central, No. 2 in Division 1. Even with three losses, no Division 3 team will want to play the Eaglets in the state playoffs.

Battle Creek Harper Creek’s loss to Coldwater made room for Grand Raids Christian to re-enter the D-3 rankings.

Lake Fenton’s 22-20 victory over Corunna moved Lake Fenton up to No. 6 in Division 4 while Corunna dropped five spots to No. 10. Hamilton’s win against Hudsonville Unity Christian resulted in the teams trading places in the rankings with Hamilton at No. 7 and Unity Christian at No. 9. Unbeaten Lake Odessa-Lakewood entered D-4 at No. 8.

Montague, which left the Division 5 rankings a week ago, is back at No. 10, made possible by Ida’s surprising 35-34 loss to Hudson, a Division 7 school.

Charlevoix re-enters the Division 6 rankings after Tawas’ loss to Division 8 Saginaw Nouvel. Roscommon was the only other D-6 team to lose, but a close loss to D-5 Clare only dropped the Bucs to No. 8.

Iron Mountain, Royal Oak Shrine and Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port dropped out of the Division 7 rankings, opening the door for Unionville-Sebewaing, Hudson and Homer earn spots. USA defeated Bay Port, Hudson was impressive in beating Ida while Homer has won five straight.

The Division 8 rankings remained the same after all 10 ranked teams won.
