A look at the top small high-school football teams in Middle Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Sports Network for Middle Tennessee.

Small schools consist of teams from Class 1A, Class 2A, Class 3A and Division II-A.

1. Stratford (2-0): The Spartan defense has posted back-to-back shutouts to open the season. Last week: 2. This week: Friday at East Nashville.

2. Christ Presbyterian Academy (0-2): The Lions have been outscored 77-7 over their first two games, and should face another challenge in Friday’s region opener. Last week: 1. This week: Friday at White House Heritage.

3. Watertown (2-0): Senior running back Ty Love rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns as the Purple Tigers rolled past Davidson Academy. Last week: 10. This week: Friday at Cascade.

4. White House Heritage (2-0): The Patriots overcame an 11-point, halftime deficit with a rushing attack that led to 381 total yards of offense. Last week: Not ranked. This week: Friday vs. Christ Presbyterian Academy.

5. Nashville Christian (1-1): The Eagles had their 10-game winning streak snapped with last Friday’s one-point loss to White House Heritage. Last week: 3. This week: Friday vs. Monterey.

6. Fairview (2-0): Led by Jake Beathard’s 193-yard, two-touchdown effort, the Yellow Jackets piled up 313 yards rushing and 439 yards total in last Friday’s win over Creek Wood. Last week: 7. This week: Friday at Stewart County.

7. East Nashville (1-1): The Eagles offense sputtered in last Friday’s two-point loss to Maplewood. Last week: 5. This week: Friday vs. Stratford.

8. Waverly (2-0): The Tigers could be looking at a 3-0 start before a Sept. 9 clash with Fairview. Last week: 9. This week: Friday vs. Loretto.

9. Wayne County (2-0): The Wildcats have scored 46 points in each of their first two contests, but had to survive a scare in Friday’s scorefest at Scotts Hill. Last week: Not ranked. This week: Friday vs. Clarksville Academy.

10. Davidson Academy (1-1): The Bears struggled to slow Watertown in last Friday’s lopsided loss. Last week: 4. This week: Friday at Whitwell.
