FOWLER – Penalties cost Maple Valley on Friday night, as the Lions fell on the road to Fowler by a score of 20-8.

“Fowler is a good team, they are constantly in the playoffs every year,” said Maple Valley coach Marty Martin. “We scored five touchdowns tonight and had had four called back. We hurt ourselves. As soon as we clean up these mistakes, we’re going to alright.”

Maple Valley quarterback Alex Musser scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper with :21 remaining in the contest. The Lions offense was led by Jace Heinze with 14 carries for 108 yards, while Musser was 9-of-20 passing for 112 yards and an interception.

Defensively for Maple Valley, Evan Adrianson had eight tackles while Musser added six stops and Gage Mercia had a fumble recovery.

Maple Valley (0-1) returns to action Sept. 1 when it visits Parchment (0-1).
