Mitchell Jonke throws two TDs as No. 7 Allen (Texas) downs Belton

Mitchell Jonke threw a pair of touchdowns and helped put away an Allen (Texas) victory with a 53-yard score to Tevyn Stevenson midway through the fourth quarter as the Eagles advanced with a 24-7 victory against Belton on Friday.

No. 7 Allen (12-0) now meets San Angelo Central in the regional round in Texas’ Class 6A Division 1.

Trailing by 17, Belton was stopped twice on fourth down in the final minutes.

Jonke finished 10 for 13 with 122 yards. Kirby Bennett ran for 111 yards and Brock Sturges ran for 101 and a touchdowns.

Belton (8-4) took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter on a Weston Lucas 21-yard reception from Peyton Mansell.

Allen answered in the second quarter with a 31-yard pass from Jonke to Theo Wease Jr. and then a 19-yard run by Sturges.

The lone scoring in the third quarter was a 23-yar field goal by Michael Ewton with 3:37 leftto give Allen a 17-7 edge.

Jonke’s 53-yard pass to Stevenson capped the scoring with 6:24 remaining in the game.
