CLARKSVILLE Portland High’s volleyball team rallied from a two-set deficit to win the Region 5-AAA Tournament on Monday evening at Clarksville High School.
The Lady Panthers defeated Wilson Central 21-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-9 to win the region title for the first time since 2013 and will host the Region 6-AAA Tournament runner-up on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Portland clinched a sectional berth in the first match of the day, defeating District 10-AAA runner-up Clarksville Northeast 25-10, 25-17, 25-4.
The Lady Panthers are making their seventh sectional appearance in the last eight seasons, but Portland has fallen in each of those years to a Williamson County team.
The Hendersonville Christian Academy volleyball team suffered a season-ending 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 loss at Battle Ground Academy in the first round of the Division II-Class A East/Middle Region Tournament on Monday evening.
Lauren Batey and Desi Sims each had a team-high five kills, while Joy Courtright served two aces for the Lady Crusaders (13-17).
HCA loses two seniors – Bailee Terrell and April Wooley.
White House 6, Forrest 1: Junior Madisson Davis scored her 100th career goal in White House’s 6-1 victory over visiting Forrest in Monday evening’s District 9 A-AA Tournament quarterfinals.
Davis, Madeline Hargrove and Shelby Deering each scored twice for the Lady Devils, who improved to 13-5 and advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals against Middle Tennessee Christian School, to be played at Forrest High School.
Merrol Hyde Magnet 4, Smith County 1: Emilie Boone, Gabby Wakefield and Abbey Miller scored in the first half of Merrol Hyde Magnet’s 4-1 victory over visiting Smith County in Monday’s District 8 A-AA Tournament quarterfinals.
The Lady Hawks advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals to face Macon County in a match to be played at Murfreesboro’s Siegel Park.
