Junior guard Chance Moore scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Eastern High School boys basketball team to a 53-47 victory at Manual on Tuesday.

Moore was 3 of 4 from the field, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range, and nailed 14 of 15 free throws as the Eagles improved to 8-5.

Manual (8-7) led 40-39 on Noah Hawkins’ jumper with 4:22 remaining, but Eastern scored six straight to take control. Moore’s layup gave the Eagles the lead for good, 41-40, with 3:16 left and his two free throws pushed the lead to 45-40 with 1:50 remaining.

The Eagles hit 12 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.

“I think we’re getting better every day,” Eagles coach David Henley said. “Defensively at the beginning of the year we were just awful. … Over Christmas break we got better, and tonight we got better. It’s just something we have to build on.”

Hawkins scored 13 points to lead Manual.

The teams will meet again at 5 p.m. next Tuesday in the second round of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament at Valley.
